фунт стерлингов (денежная единица Великобритании) = 100 новым пенсам; до 1971 г. = 20 шиллингам = 240 пенсам; первоначально - стоимость 1 фунта серебра. Курс фунта стерлингов по отношению к доллару США колеблется без ограничения пределов его изменений. Национальную и иностранную валюту разрешено ввозить и вывозить без ограничений. Операции с золотом не ограничиваются. Лондонский рынок золота является одним из крупнейших в мире. В денежном обращении находятся банкноты в 1, 5, 10 и 20 фунтов, а также монеты в ? , 1 пенни, 2, 5, 10 и 50 пенсов. Эмиссионным институтом является Банк Англии (см. BOE); = L., liv. st.
